Now in its 10th year, The Songwriter's Beat is New York's premiere performing songwriter series. Hosted and founded by singer-songwriter Valerie Ghent, four up-and-coming songwriters perform new material in a supportive and intimate atmosphere.
This month's Songwriter's Beat features Rebecca Hart, Valerie Ghent, Danny Ross and Randi Driscoll.
Every third Wednesday of the month, four songwriters of varying musical styles perform original songs and are encouraged to try out their newest material and arrangements. The series culminates in a week-long festival each July, featuring performers from throughout the years.
Founded in 2000, The Songwriter's Beat has presented over 290 songwriters from the Tri-State area as well as visiting songwriters from other parts of the United States, Canada, France, the UK, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Cuba and Japan.

Estimable George is away on a secret poetry mission but guest host Russ Green will feature a celebration of the Stony Brook-Southampton MFA program. Long Island visits the West Village, watch out.
Michelle Whittaker is the Liberal Arts Chair for Patchogue Arts Council and co-founder of Parrhesia Poetry Society. She received the 2009 Jody Donohue Poetry Prize and poems have recently appeared in Xanadu, Long Island Quarterly and The Southampton Review. Currently, she is finishing her MFA at Stony Brook University and teaches piano.
Tara Propper is an MFA student at Stony Brook University. Her poems have appeared in the Southampton Review and the Long Island Sounds Poetry Anthology. She's also a freelance writer and editor for photography and arts magazines. Her work has been published in Studio Photography Magazine, Photo Trade News, and imaginginfo.com. She recently read at the Patchogue Arts Festival. Tara's work is forthcoming in the Long Island Sounds 2010 Poetry Anthology.
JULIE SHEEHAN won the 2005 Bernard Women Poets Prize for her sophomore collection, Orient Point. She lives on Long Island, New York, and teaches in the MFA program at Stony Brook, Southampton. Her latest work, just released, is Bar Book.
