This world premiere production comes from the author of the international best seller Beaches, Iris Rainer Dart, with a glorious score by Mike Stoller (Smokey Joe's Café) and Artie Butler ("Here's To Life").
THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE is a funny and deeply moving new musical from the author of Beaches, about a Jewish grandmother struggling to share her legacy. Once the darling of Yiddish comedy theatre in 1930s Warsaw before her narrow escape to New York, Bubbie has had quite a life. But what will it all mean if she can't pass her stories to her daughter and granddaughter? A tale that spans three generations of women and dances playfully from New York to the Old World, THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE celebrates the importance of learning from our past, the strength we find in our families and the extraordinary power of laughter.

THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE has been nominated for a Tony® Award for Best Actress in a Musical (Donna Murphy); three Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Donna Murphy), Outstanding Book of a Musical (Iris Rainer Dart) and Outstanding Music of a Musical (Mike Stoller & Artie Butler); an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Donna Murphy); two Drama League Awards for Distinguished Production of a Musical and Distinguished Performance Award (Donna Murphy).
