Joseph Spinelli and Leila Mc Cann star in Bill Manhoff's vintage Broadway comedy The Owl and the Pussycat beginning at Producers Club (358 W. 44th Street) on January 26th. Tyler Onassis directs.
When Felix Sherman, a struggling novelist working in a bookstore, manages to have Doris Wilgis, a would be actress and model moonlighting as a prostitute, evicted from her apartment she furiously confronts him in the middle of the night and succeeds in placing his living situation in jeopardy too. Despite Doris's terrible temper Felix finds himself falling for her. The two of them wind up sharing accommodations, and their bickering turns into an unpredictable romance. But their inability to be honest with themselves about who they are and what they want continually gets in their way.
The Owl and the Pussycat was first presented on Broadway in 1964 featuring Alan Alda and Diana Sands and then made into a film starring Barbra Streisand and George Segal. It became playwright Bill Manhoff's defining work although he was a long time writer for a number of successful television series including All In the Family, Sanford and Son, Room 222, The Odd Couple and Love American Style.
Tyler Onassis, a director, actor and writer who hails from Quebec was raised on the Greek island of Lesvos. He wrote, directed and starred in The Twisted 50's: A trilogy that of films that included Rockcliff Dr., Candy Cane Laneand Hollywood & Vine. He won the 2014 L.A. Neo Noir Film Festival's Best Actor Award for Rockcliff Dr.
Joseph Spinelli has been featured in regional productions of Julius Caesar,Henry V and Cyrano De Bergerac. He trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Leila Mc Cann studied in Ireland at The Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Irish Film Academy before coming to New York to continue her theatre training at LSTFI. Representative roles include Rose in The Woolgatherer, Stella in Streetcar Named Desire and Jackie in Mauritius.
The Owl and the Pussycat opens Monday January 26th at the Producers Club Royal Theatre (358 West 44th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues). The performance schedule is Monday & Wednesday January 26 and 28 and Monday & Wednesday February 2 and 4. All shows at 7PM.
