Nicky Silver's play THE LYONS -- a critical and popular success when it debuted last fall at Vineyard Theatre -- will transfer to Broadway's Cort Theatre (138 W. 48 St.) with preview performances beginning the first week of April prior to an official opening before the April 26 cutoff for the 2012 Tony Awards.
Directed by Mark Brokaw, THE LYONS will move to Broadway starring Tony winners Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa.
The rest of the original cast -- Michael Esper, Kate Jennings Grant, Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell -- is expected to return as well.
THE LYONS -- the first play by Mr. Silver (PTERODACTYLS, RAISED IN CAPTIVITY, THE FOOD CHAIN, THE EROS TRILOGY, THE MAIDEN'S PRAYER, etc.) to come to Broadway -- was a major success during its sold-out, twice-extended nine-week run at The Vineyard last year.
THE LYONS is a stirring work about a family grappling with the impending death of its patriarch. When Ben Lyons’ wife, Rita, and their grown children gather to say goodbye, they learn that despite being a family, each of them is utterly isolated. Afraid of closeness and afraid of solitude, they are propelled into foreign territory - human connection.
The Vineyard Theatre production of THE LYONS will be presented on Broadway by Kathleen K. Johnson. Johnson has been a producer on the Broadway productions of the Tony Award-winning revival of HAIR, RACE, BLITHE SPIRIT, SUPERIOR DONUTS and A LIFE IN THE THEATRE.
Additional information as well as THE LYONS performance schedule and ticket price to be announced.
