Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As With Your Favorite Broadway Stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this next edition, we caught up with Uzo Aduba, who is starring in GODSPELL- currently playing at the Circle in the Square Theatre!
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
The first Broadway show I ever saw was Les Mis when I was a kid. I thought it was so cool that the stage could turn!
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?
My ritual isn't pre-show, but more during intermission. I must have a string cheese and an Emergen-C during intermission, and since part of our intermission is with the audience We all get to eat and drink together.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?
Doing GODSPELL at the Papermill Playhouse, and the show van holding half the cast (including myself) was stuck in a mountain of traffic. The understudies were already at the theater, and as 10 minutes became 30 minutes past curtain, the producers began to worry. Those present at the theater began plotting how to do the show without us. What troopers! We finally got there after 90 minutes, and what a show it was. The audience was so understanding and warm to us, what began as a nail-biter ended up being an awesome night!
What is the one role you want to play before you die?
Lady M in The Scottish Play (not sure of what the rules are when it comes to talking about that play in a theater website, but I'm not taking any chances). That part's a beast, but I love that play and that role.
Who is your Broadway crush?
Easy, my castmate George Salazar. Next question.
Where can people stalk you on the web?
On Twitter @A_Naija_Gal or you can just search my name, Uzo Aduba. There's only one.
