Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Lauren Worsham, who stars as 'Lucy Lemay' in Unknown Soldier, playing July 30- August 9 at Williamstown Theatre Festival.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
I think it was BIG. My middle school theater class went on a trip to NYC in 7th grade, I believe. We were in the nose-bleed seats and I remember thinking the sets were...well...really BIG.
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?Nothing super weird, I don't think. I guess the oddest thing is that I try not to eat for about 3-4 hours before curtain, and I also don't really eat after shows. So when I'm doing a show I'm basically hungry all the time. Being kind of hungry helps me focus.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?Nothing too crazy has happened to me...yet...thank goodness. Towards the beginning of my run in Gentleman's Guide, I frequently had trouble finding the correct "belladonna" flower to pluck and hand to Bryce. That belladonna flower is kind of important because it runs as a joke all the way to curtain call. I plucked a few odd things to hand to Bryce and once I handed him nothing. That was awkward. On a more serious note, I struggled with some serious anxiety during Tony season and had to literally force myself to go out on stage and perform. That was terrifying, humbling and ultimately incredibly empowering.
What is the one role you want to play before you die?One that is written specifically for me and to challenge me...hopefully when I'm 95.
Who is your Broadway crush?Kelli O'Hara
