Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Mary Michael Patterson, who is starring as 'Christine' in The Phantom of the Opera- currently playing at the Majestic Theatre.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
My first Broadway show was THE MUSIC MAN revival with Rebecca Luker and Craig Bierko. I fell in love with both of those performers and with the show. It was absolutely magical.
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?I love listening to stand-up comedy while I get ready for PHANTOM because it's such a dark show and I don't get to laugh a lot in the two and a half hours. My favorites are Mike Birbiglia and Jim Gaffigan.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment? When I was in high school I was playing 'Millie' in PICNIC and my first entrance was running in and jumping over a picket fence. I didn't quite clear it one night, fell, and dislocated/broke my finger. I did the rest of the play in immense pain. On the bright side, it made all of the crying scenes really believable.
There are so many! I would love to play 'Victoria Grant' in Victor VictorIA, and 'Guinevere' in CAMELOT.
Who is your Broadway crush?
I saw Arthur Darvill in ONCE and thought he was absolutely divine. Big ol' talent crush there.
Where can people stalk you online?
The thought of online stalking gives me the willies, but I do have a twitter. @MaryMichaelPatt
