Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Sean Grandillo, who stars as 'Voice of Otto/Bass' in Spring Awakening, playing through January 24 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
I didn't see ANY theater until I was 15 or 16, when I caught the tour of Spring Awakening in Cleveland (featuring my now cast-mate Andy Mientus and my now-girlfriend Kimiko Glenn... Crazy right?). The first BROADWAY show I saw wasLysistrata Jones.
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?
Probably watching Judge Judy clips with Austin McKenzie.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?
In Spring Awakening? Definitely the occasion(s) when I've broken a bass string, and I have to figure out how to play the songs on whatever strings are left. Because I don't leave the stage, there are very few chances for me to get the instrument offstage for a quick string change. I've gotten better at playing because of it though so I guess it's a positive? Maybe I should play a little softer...
What is the one role you want to play before you die?
Bobby in Company.
Who is your Broadway crush?
Past: Angela Lansbury
Current: Kiera Knightley
Future: Kimiko Glenn
