Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Paul Alexander Nolan, who is starring as 'Guy' in Once- currently playing at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
Fosse. I remember thinking naughty things about all the beautiful women in it. And also wondered how they were singing so well after a 4 minute dance break. "Steam Heat"---come ON! They were extraordinary.
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?Telling Jessie not to embarrass me.
And meditation. Not necessarily in that order.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?Opening night of JCS at the Stratford festival, no understudy ready----I've got a chest infection. Don't have any chest range. I wanted the show to start with the crucifixion. I sounded super cool on my steroids that got me through the show--I loved having a Neil Diamond sound. It was the second most terrifying opening night of my career. The first was Once--having to play a guitar in front of people. Now you can't make me put the thing down.
So many. 'Sparkish' in The Country Wife, 'Iago' in Othello, 'Edmund' in Long Days Journey Into Night...
Who is your Broadway crush?
A better question may be who DONT I have a crush on?!? But My biggest crush is my wife (as of October 5th!).
Where can people 'stalk' you online?
I'm hard to stalk. Check out my twitter socks @_PaulNolan
