Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Tamika Lawrence, who is starring as 'Elena' in If/Then- currently playing at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
Rock of Ages!
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?Sometimes the cast and I will do a session of "Mediocre Rhymes" (something a few of us used to do at Matilda). Each person gets four bars to spit something and then the group comes back in saying "mediocre rhymes" before the next person goes. The phrase is fitting most times after people spit their bars.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment? When I was at RENT, I ate something gnarly from a bake shop once and my stomach turned on me right before the end of the first act. I found myself in the bathroom hurling my guts out when places for the second act was called. I went out, sang Seasons of Love and then went right back into the bathroom again. I'd like to take this moment to apologize to the cast members standing beside me who probably wondered where that vomit smell was coming from.
Hamlet
Who is your Broadway crush?...Well I have a huuuuge crush on my primary care doctor. His office is on Broadway. That counts, right? There's something sexy about a man with a PhD and a stethoscope.
