Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Jonathan Schwartz, who is starring as 'Omar' in Aladdin- currently playing at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
A LITTLE MORE MAGIC circa 1994 -- it was a Canadian black magic troupe doing puppetry, magic, and used a lot of blacklight effects. I was too young to remember any of it, but my parents tell me I had a great time.
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?
Hmmm, I don't really have one. Perhaps obsessively playing computer games (like 'Civilization', my favorite).
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?
I was playing a brother in JOSEPH in NJ. All the brothers had to run out of a curtain of streamers for 'roll call', and the guy ahead of me got his shepherd's staff stuck in the curtain. It yanked him back and he awkwardly yelled out his character, "Daaaaan" as he went down to the ground. Determined to hit my mark, I hurdled over poor "Dan", and got my name out just in time!
What is the one role you want to play before you die?
'Seymour' in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS.
Who is your Broadway crush?
Where can people 'stalk' you online?
