Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Mark Ledbetter who is starring in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder- currently playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
What is the first Broadway show you ever saw?
The 1994 revival of CAROUSEL at Lincoln Center starring GGLAM's own Eddie Korbich!
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?
I always sing/hum along to the overture in every show I do. Sort of a pre-curtain up ritual.
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?
While in the Broadway company of MARY POPPINS, my biggest "show must go on" moment was having to go on in the role of 'Bert' at intermission when Gavin Lee slowly lost his voice over the course of the first act. I knew the audience was going to be a bit confused since Gavin and I bear very little resemblance, he's about 4 inches taller than me, but on we went!
What is the one role you want to play before you die?
I'd love to play 'Bobby Child' in CRAZY FOR YOU. But my dream would be to originate a role in an new, original musical - to have the opportunity to help shape and create is always the ultimate thrill.
Who is your Broadway crush?
Currently Jefferson Mays - I am awed by his talent, his commitment to the work and his incredible generosity with every actor he is sharing the stage with. It is an inspiring combination and something I hope to embody in my own work.
