The Staten Island Children's Museum is hosting its annual fundraiser: The Carnival & Science Spectacular, an old fashioned day of family fun on the Meadow.
But this carnival has a mission-to get kids and families excited about science, technology, engineering, art and math-STEAM! Learn the mechanics behind carnival rides and games, the science of cooking, and the mathematics present all around us, every day.
It all takes place on Saturday, June 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. (rain date Sunday, June 4) at Staten Island Children's Museum, East Meadow, on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens, 1000 Richmond Terrace on Staten Island. Tickets are $15 at the gate and $13 in advance at the museum or via sichildrensmuseum.org. Members and the general public must purchase tickets to enter the Carnival and Museum for this special fundraising day. Tickets are non-refundable.
New demonstrations and entertainment this year include the live "Marvels of Motion" show by Mad Science, Play-Well Technologies Battle Track-engineering Lego cars, the Billion Oyster Project, and the Science of Baking by Gina Marie Cakes.
Classic rides such as Dixie Twister, Sky Swing and Turbo Tubs are returning along with clowns Watson & Christine, robotics teams from St. Clares School, Xavarian High and St. Joseph by the Sea. The Green Tech Club's solar racer as well as SI Zoo animals, the NY Insect Zoo and the MakerSpace Mobile STEM Wagon will be in attendance as well. More demonstrators are signing up daily, visit www.sichildrensmuseum.org for up to the minute information!
"Every year the Carnival & Science Spectacular amazes children and families by demonstrating that science is around us every day. It is exciting to see the wonder in the eyes of kids as they interact with robots, use lasers to cut through metal, or marvel at amazing insects," says Kerri Bringslid, Carnival co-chair.
"It is gratifying to see the support of our corporate funders who, year after year, have demonstrated their commitment to the Staten Island Children's Museum by enabling us to produce exciting events where children are learning and having fun," added Leslie Kasegrande, Carnival co-chair.
Major support for the Carnival is provided by Investors Bank and NRG, with additional funding from Northfield Bank and Richmond County Savings Bank. Funds raised for the Carnival & Science Spectacular support Museum school, camp and public programs. Visit www.sichildrensmuseum.org for more information.
