THE BODYGUARD star Beverley Knight has signed on for her next stage project after she leaves the Adelphi on May 31. According to the Daily Mail, she will lead the West End debut of the Tony-winning musical MEMPHIS, opening at the Shaftesbury Theatre in October 2014.

From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, MEMPHIS is inspired by actual events about a radio DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break.
Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, MEMPHIS features a Tony-winning book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and a Tony-winning original score with music by Bon Jovi's founding member David Bryan. MEMPHIS also won four 2010 Drama Desk Awards (including Best Musical) and four 2010 Outer Critics Circle Awards (including Outstanding Musical).
In addition to a 3-year run on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre in New York City, MEMPHIS launched a successful 55-city National Tour that ran from 2011-2013. In 2011, NCM and Broadway Worldwide filmed the live stage version of MEMPHIS for theatrical release, making it the first Broadway show to release a film version while still running on Broadway. The Second National Tour is being produced by Networks Presentations and began playing around the U.S. last fall.
Singer, songwriter, record producer and stage star Knight took over the role of Rachel Marron from Heather Headley in THE BODYGUARD musical last September. She is known for her gospel, soul and R&B sound and has released six studio albums to date.
