TEXPATS (Joshua Doss, Producer/Director) announced today that they will hold a one-night performance on Monday, September 18th at The Linney Theatre, with 100% of profits going to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.
"Many of the ladies in my life (my mother, sister, nieces, cousins, and dear friends to name a few) still live in North Texas. I love and miss these people every day, and I would give anything to be able to help and protect them while I'm in NYC the way I could if I were there with them.
When the movement to defund Planned Parenthood started, it startled me. I know countless friends and family members who count on PP for their everyday needs. Without a nearby clinic many would not have access to affordable healthcare. But what could I do? I'm one person, sitting on my couch in a small NY apartment. Most of the people I'm around daily understand the importance of PP and know it is more than a single-issue entity:
So, again, what could I do?
Thus, TEXPATS was born.
I love the diversity and energy of New York, and I really love the close-knit community of Texas ex-patriots who call NYC home. These are great people, Texas to the core, and they are a motivated group. I decided to organize this concert at my own financial risk. I'm an actor and bartender. No singers are getting paid. I'm here to help. And so are many of my talented friends.
We're joining forces at The Romulus Linney Theatre on Monday, September 18th. Why such a grand venue? Because the outpouring from performers was overwhelming. Even people whose schedules wouldn't allow them to perform wanted to know how to help. They're ready to DO SOMETHING. And so am I. So, let's sell it out and send some assistance down to Texas--let them know that out-of-sight does not mean out-of-mind.
Think of the number of people displaced by Hurricane Harvey, forced north into the Dallas/Fort Worth, Waco, and Austin areas (all served by Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas). Where will these people go for affordable healthcare while they get back on their feet? Join us September 18th for a night of music and stories and send some aid to those in need!"
Cast includes: Steve Barcus, Joshua Doss, Aleisha Force, Hunter Frederick, Amber Nicole Guest, Natasha Hakata, Martha Harms, Elizabeth Kensek, Jillian Paige, Chad Peterson, Darius-Anthony Robinson, Rory Scholl, Forest VanDyke, and Ted Wold.
