Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the publication of Guillermo Calderon's Neva, translated by Andrea Thome. The play premiered in its first English-language production at The Public Theater in New York in the spring of 2013 under the direction of Calderon himself.

"It was through a TCG Delegation to the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro De Bogota that a number of U.S. theatre-makers first became acquainted with Calderon's work, leading to productions of Neva at Radar LA and The Public Theater," said Teresa Eyring, executive director, TCG. "That history makes it all the more fitting that Neva be our first bilingual publication, with the powerful original following an evocative translation by Andrea Thome."

This politically charged, haunting and humorous play tells the story of three actors, including Anton Chekhov's widow, who gather to rehearse scenes from The Cherry Orchard as Russia faces an impending revolution. A savage examination of the relationship between theatre and historical context, Neva received its English-language premiere at The Public Theater in New York.

Guillermo Calderon is Chile's foremost contemporary theatre artist. His plays include Diciembre (December), Clase (Class), Villa, Discurso (Speech), Quake, and Escuela (School). His productions have toured extensively.

Andrea Thome's plays have been produced throughout the U.S. She has also translated Rodrigo Garcia's You Should Have Stayed Home, Morons (commissioned by Center Theatre Group for Radar LA).

For over 50 years, Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for the American theatre, has existed to strengthen, nurture and promote the professional not-for-profit American theatre. TCG's constituency has grown from a handful of groundbreaking theatres to nearly 700 Member Theatres and Affiliate organizations and more than 12,000 individuals nationwide. TCG offers its members networking and knowledge-building opportunities through conferences, events, research and communications; awards grants, approximately $2 million per year, to theatre companies and individual artists; advocates on the federal level; and serves as the U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute, connecting its constituents to the global theatre community. TCG is North America's largest independent trade publisher of dramatic literature, with 14 Pulitzer Prizes for Best Play on the TCG booklist. It also publishes the award-winning American Theatre magazine and ARTSEARCH, the essential source for a career in the arts. In all of its endeavors, TCG seeks to increase the organizational efficiency of its member theatres, cultivate and celebrate the artistic talent and achievements of the field and promote a larger public understanding of, and appreciation for, the theatre. www.tcg.org.
