International smash hit gothic horror musical TANZ DER VAMPIRE is set for its premiere in Paris, France, a year from now, according to a new blog post by bookwriter and lyricist Michael Kunze.

Kunze's blog post announcing TANZ DER VAMPIRE premiering in Paris in October 2014 follows: "Besides being the center of fashion and the paradise of lovers, Paris is a city of of art and entertainment. Nevertheless for a long time none of the famous Broadway and West End musicals made a splash here. Not even "Les Miserables" had a long run production in Paris. A few years ago the Dutch Stage Entertainment Company rented the legendary Mogador Theatre and turned it in a musical palace, and since that time the art form of the musical has found a home in France. So far, Cabaret, Mamma Mia, Sister Act and Beauty and the Beast had successful runs at the Mogador. I'm excited about the news that the next show coming to Paris will be my Dance Of The Vampires, slated to open in October 2014. Roman Polanski will direct."

So, it looks like the city of lights will stand witness to a "total eclipse" in 2014!

TANZ DER VAMPIRE is based on Roman Polanski's 1967 feature film THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS and features a score by Jim Steinman with German book and lyrics by Michael Kunze. The original production was directed by Polanski, who will direct the Paris premiere next year, as well.

The original Vienna production of TANZ DER VAMPIRE opened in 1997 at the Raimund Theater, where it played until 2000. A revival opened in 2009, as have several notable productions throughout Europe, including noted mountings of it in Hamburg, Berlin and Estonia.

Of note, a vastly rewritten and reworked Broadway adaptation of TANZ DER VAMPIRE opened under the title DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES in 2002, starring Michael Crawford, featuring Steinman's score and a book by Steinman, Kunze and David Ives, directed by John Rando, closing quickly thereafter.
