TADA! Youth Theater Camp Offering Free Open House, 1/7

On January 7th, 2012 from 10am-2pm, TADA! Youth Theater is celebrating the New Year by hosting a free Open House for interested musical theater students to learn more about the programs offered. Students will participate in age-appropriate mini sample classes followed by Q&A sessions with TADA! Teaching Artists and administrators.

TADA! Youth Theater is the Drama Desk and Coming Up Taller Award-winning organization, which offers a diverse group of young people the opportunity to explore and perform musical theater. Reservations for the sample classes are highly recommended. Please email education@tadatheater.com your name, email address, and phone number as well as your child's name and age, so they can be placed in the appropriate time-slot. TADA! TADA!’s production of The History Mystery with book and direction by Janine Nina Trevens, music by Eric Rockwell, and lyrics by Margaret Rose begins performances Friday, January 20 and continue through Sunday, February 19. Performed by TADA!’s Resident Youth Ensemble, The History Mystery is a musical time travel adventure--Meet Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt, the Wright Brothers and other characters when they were children. 

Winter Classes at TADA! include:

Theater On Their Scale (T.O.T.S.): Tuesdays 10:10 - 11 a.m., Saturdays 10:10-11 a.m.
Ages 2 - 3 (and their Caregivers!)
For the youngest of thespians, this unique program develops language and coordination through musical movement. T.O.T.S. incorporates song & story using cooperative play, sign language, and creative exploration - a perfect blend for toddlers and their caregivers!

Creative Musical Play: Mondays 3:15 - 4:15 p.m., Saturdays 11:10 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.
Pre-K/K
Celebrate your budding young singer, dancer and actor! This class supports a child's natural inclination for dramatic play while teaching the basic elements of Musical Theater. Culminates in a final Sharing on the last day of class for family and friends. Final Sharing will be recorded and a complimentary v-link of video will be emailed to all registered families. *Child must be age 4 by 9/1/11

Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance!: Mondays 4:15 - 5:45 p.m. (Gr. K - 2), Tuesdays 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. (Gr. K - 3), Saturdays 12:15 - 1:45 p.m. (Gr. K - 2)
Grades K – 2 & K - 3
A Musical Theater skills-building class that focuses on the core elements of singing, dancing and acting. Learn popular Broadway songs, plus one-of-a-kind songs from TADA!'s original musicals. This class includes exploration in character development using theater games, song and dance. Culminates in a final Sharing on the last day of class for family and friends. Final Sharing will be recorded and a complimentary v-link of video will be emailed to all registered families.

Write On!: Tuesdays 5 - 6:30 p.m. (Gr. 4 - 8), Saturdays 2 - 3:30 p.m. (Gr. 3 - 5)
Grades 3 - 5 & 4 - 8
From page to stage: create your own original mini-musical! This Musical Theater play-building class focuses on the essential skills of writing, singing and dancing plus techniques from the "actor's tool-box," such as characterization, improv, and scene development. Culminates in a final Sharing on the last day of class for family and friends. Final Sharing will be recorded and a complimentary v-link of video will be emailed to all registered families.

Your Voice: Saturdays 3:30 - 5 p.m. (Gr. 6 - 8)
Grades 6 - 8
Find your story and sing out loud! This class supports ensemble-based learning within a safe, collaborative and creative setting that encourages students to "turn up the volume" musically and theatrically. Musical Theater performance will be developed through writing based on personal interests and expressed through song and dance. Culminates in a final Sharing on the last day of class for family and friends. Final Sharing will be recorded and a complimentary v-link of video will be emailed to all registered families.

1-Day Camp: Monday, January 16 Grades 1-5

Week-Long School Break Camps: February 20-24 (Grades 1 – 3 & 4 – 8); March 19-23 (Grades 1 – 6); April 9-13 (Grades 1 – 3 & 4 – 8)

TADA! Spring Mini-Series: Sundays April 15 – May 20
Grades Pre-K – 8, separated by age groups.

Week-Long Summer Camps will be on sale in February 2012.

Since 1984, TADA! Youth Theater has been providing young people of all different backgrounds the opportunity to explore and perform musical theater together in an educational, supportive and professional environment. TADA! has received many honors and awards including the American Alliance for Theater Education’s Anne Flagg Multicultural Award, Family Circle Magazine’s 1st Annual Halo Award, and more than a dozen National Youth Theatre Awards. Additionally, in 2008 TADA! was honored with a Coming Up Taller Award, our nation’s highest honor for youth development from the President's Committee on the Arts & Humanities, and in 2009 with a Special Drama Desk Award for "providing an invaluable contribution to the future of the theater.” TADA! is the only youth theater to have won this prestigious award.

Every year, TADA! produces: original musical theater productions performed by kids for family audiences; a discounted ticket program; free pre-professional training and youth development opportunities through the Resident Youth Ensemble composed of over 80 NYC kids ages 8-18; renowned Arts Education in-school residencies and after-school programs; and theater classes and camps for kids of all ages taught by professional teaching artists and for which need-based financial aid is readily available.
