Waterwell is proud to announce the world premiere of Sweetness & Light at Altered Stages (212 W. 29th St 2nd fl) on Thursday October 28-30 & November 3-6 at 8pm (2pm matinees on October 30, 31, November 3, 6 & 7).
In Sweetness & Light an awkward but brilliant inventor falls fervently in love with a boisterous lamp tester and loses her when the company's eccentric founder is caught in a financial panic. Two revolutionaries sort through personal and political tensions at the dawn of democracy. Set in present-day Pittsburgh and 1784 Paris the stories collide an uproarious skewering of industry and statecraft. Combining comedy, satire and pathos and underpinned by a cache of vibrant country and folk music, it questions America's love affair with business, technology and itself.
Waterwell was founded in 2001 and has produced more than 10 productions. The company debuted in New York in 2002 with performances of Lost In Yemen, or The Bizarre Bazaar at Collective: Unconscious. An adaptation of Fuenteovejuna followed in 2003 at the Duplex Cabaret Theater along with another original piece Stuck at the Peoples Improv Theater and the double-bill Chill & Serve at the Ground Floor Theatre. This year, Mr. Moayed and Mr. Ridgely directed separate productions of Episodes in Blue and Life in Pink, respectively, at the Belt Theater and formed the improv ensembles Boldfaced LIAR and Big Black Car, respectively, which continue to perform weekly at venues around Manhattan.
