'Sweeney Todd' & 'Hairspray' Earn 5 Critics' Choice Nominations

The nominees for the 13th Annual Critics' Choice Awards were announced Tuesday, December 11 by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.  Honoring the finest in cinematic achievement, the winners of the Critics' Choice Awards will be broadcast live on VH1 from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Monday, January 7, 2008.

Notable nominations include 5-nods to movie-musicals Sweeney Todd and Hairspray. Among them include Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd) and Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray) in their leading performances; the ensemble casts of Sweeney Todd and Hairspray; and Tim Burton (Sweeney Todd) as Best Director.

Disney's family film, Enchanted garnered three nominations, including Amy Adams' lead performance and Alan Menkan's music compositions.  Cate Blanchett was twice-nominated for her performances in I'm Not There and Elizabeth: The Golden AgeAaron Sorkin (playwright of The Farnsworth Invention) was nominated for penning the film Charlie Wilson's War, as was Philip Seymour Hoffman as the film's supporting actor.

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (playwright of Atlantic Theatre Company's coming Almost An Evening) were multi-nominated for No Country for Old MenVanessa Redgrave earned a nomination for her supporting role in Atonement.
