'Sweeney' Stars, with Sheik & McKay, Star in 8/21 Concert

McKay (The Threepenny Opera) and Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) will perform  for one night only at the Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey Street (near Bowery), on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 8pm.

"For one night only, the ensemble of Sweeney Todd are forsaking the rarefied environment of Broadway and reconnecting with their downtown roots for an evening of new and unexpected, non-musical theater, musical stylings," state press notes.  Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris and his band, CERVERIS  [Julian Maille (bass), Eddie Zwbeck (drums), Chris Weilding (guitar)], will perform songs from his first album, "Dog Eared" as well as debuting songs from his forthcoming release "The Hinterlands Eps" (both available on  Low Heat Records), which is due out in early autumn.  

John Arbo, Donna Lynne Champlin, Diana DiMarzio, Tony Nominee Manoel Felciano, Benjamin Magnuson, and Lauren Molina, will perform a mixture of their own songs and covers, joined by multi-instrumental Sweeney Todd stand-bys, Stephen McIntyre, Elisa Winter and Jessica Wright.

Special guest stars include Nellie McKay ("Get Away from Me") recently on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera and Grammy nominee Duncan Sheik, whose song "Barely Breathing" was one of the BMA most played songs of 1997.

The evening is being organized by CERVERIS as a benefit for BC/EFA, an entertainment industry leader in the fight against AIDS and in the support and care of persons afflicted with and affected by this devastating illness.
