Broadway will 'give its regards' to the fans when its biggest stars come together on June 7 in Shubert Alley to perform in a free outdoor concert. Presented by Continental Airlines, "Stars in the Alley," is an annual event, which brings together stars from current Broadway productions to celebrate the end of the season.
"Stars in the Alley" features performances and special appearances by cast members from Broadway's most popular musicals and plays. This year's concert will feature performances/appearances from
Awake and Sing, Avenue Q, Chicago, The Color Purple, The Drowsy Chaperone, Hairspray, Hot Feet, Jersey Boys, Lestat, The Light in the Piazza, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Mamma Mia!, The Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, Rent, Spamalot, Sweeney Todd, The Wedding Singer, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Wicked …. and more. (All performances are subject to change. A more detailed list of performances will be announced soon). The annual Star award, which recognizes an individual in public or government service who has demonstrated significant support for Broadway, will also be presented at the event.
"Stars in the Alley" leads up to the 60th Tony Awards on Sunday, June 11, 2006. It is produced by The League of American Theatres and Producers. Sprint and The New York Times are official sponsors of the concert, with additional support coming from the New York Marriott Marquis and Broadway Previews.
