On October 26th and October 27th, a private industry reading of the musical A Day in the Life of Gloucester will take place, featuring Tony Award winner Sutton Foster (Shrek), and Broadway vets Christopher Sieber (Shrek) and Lenny Wolpe (The Drowsy Chaperone). Lonny Price (A Class Act) will direct the reading at Chelsea Studios. The musical features a book by Bob Walton with music and lyrics by Jim Walton.
This will be the second reading of the musical this year, the first having taken place in July, also directed by Price, with Kerry O'Malley, Graham Rowat and Michael McGrath. Reportedly, a significant number of cast members from the July reading will be returning to this presentation, including Todd Dubail, Jack Doyle, Nancy Johnston, Jess LeProtto, Jim Madden, Patti Mcclure, Michael McGuirk, Virginia Seidel, Dorothy Stanley, Bethany Tesarck, Emily Walton, Laurie Walton, Patrick Wetzel and Emily Zuzelski.
The musical tells the story of Gavin Matthews, a has-been writer who has been sent to Gloucester, Massachusetts to write an article about the town's Revolutionary War Re-Enactment ceremony. He is detained after the festival due to an unusual fog preventing transportation out. Reminiscent of Groundhog Day, when Matthews awakes the next morning, the events of the previous day are repeating exactly as they happened before. Thus an uncomfortable pattern ensues.
Though no production plans for the show have been announced, with players like this it would seem the production may have Broadway aspirations.
