SummerStage to Screen WILD STYLE with Live Hip Hop Show, 8/26

On Monday August 26, 2013, SummerStage will present the Wild Style 30th Anniversary Celebration with a full-length screening of the seminal hip hop film Wild Style, featuring live performances and appearances by: FAB 5 FREDDY, BUSY BEE, GRAND WIZARD THEODORE, COLD CRUSH BROTHERS, THE ROCK STEADY CREW, LEE / LADY PINK / PATTI ASTOR / LISA LEE / RODNEY C and more.

Part of the "This is Hip Hop" series at SummerStage presented by AT&T, this FREE SHOW is set for East River Park, Manhattan. Showtime: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

Join SummerStage for a special 30th anniversary screening of the classic Hip-Hop film, Wild Style at the East River. For those craving the true roots of Rap, Wild Style captured the hard core South Bronx scene at its births. This 1983 film stars a pantheon of Hip-Hop pioneers, including: DJ Grand Master Flash, Grand Master Caz and The Cold Crush Brothers, and The Rock Steady Crew. "Wild Style" also showcases the works of legendary subway artists, Lee Quinones and Sandra Pink Fabara and follows the outlaw artists through the train yards to the clubs where Hip-Hop music and B-Boy culture were born. On Tuesday August 27, 2013, SummerStage will continue with PETE ROCK vs. DJ PREMIER, hosted by LYRICIST LOUNGE, as part of the "This is Hip Hop" series at SummerStage presented by AT&T. The FREE SHOW will be performed at East River Park, Manhattan. Showtime: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

Christopher Edward Martin, better known by his stage name DJ Premier (also known as Preem, Premo, or Primo for short) is a producer and DJ and is the instrumental half of Hip-Hop duo Gang Starr, together with emcee Guru. DJ Premier recognized as one of Hip-Hop's most important track masters his style is aggressive and raw. About.com ranked him #1 on their "Top 50 Hip-Hop Producers" list and Rolling Stone identified DJ Premier as arguably "Hip-Hop's greatest producer of all time." DJ Premier's production has appeared on many of Hip-Hop's most important records: Nas' Illmatic, the Notorious B.I.G's Ready to Die, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt and numerous others.

Pete Rock, also known as Soul Brother #1 and The Chocolate Boy Wunda, is a producer, DJ and rapper and is one half of the critically acclaimed group, Pete Rock & CL Smooth. He has arguably pioneered the fusing of Jazz, Funk and Soul into Hip-Hop as well as laid down the blueprint for beautiful soulful productions in Hip-Hop. Pete Rock's production has appeared on many of Hip-Hop's most important records: Heavy D's Peaceful Journey, Nas' Illmatic, and Kanye West/Jay-Z'sWatch The Throne to name a few.

SummerStage celebrates the acclaimed Hip-Hop brand, Lyricist Lounge. A respected part of Hip-Hop music and culture, Lyricist Lounge has hosted hundreds of live showcases featuring the best up and coming talent while acting as a career platform for many of today's superstars.
