The premiere recording of the musical romance Summer of '42--starring Rachel York, Celia Keenan-Bolger and more--will be released by Jay Records in September.
With a book by Tony Award-nominated performer Hunter Foster (Urinetown, The Producers) and music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum (Party Come Here), the recording features York (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dessa Rose) as Dorothy and Keenan-Bolger (Spelling Bee) as Aggie, with Megan Valerie Walker as Miriam, Joe
Gallagher as Benjie, Brett Tabisel as Oscy, Ryan Driscoll as Hermie, Ayal
Miodovnik as Pete, Danielle Ferland as Gloria and Bill Buell as Mr.
Sanders and Walter Winchell."Hermie's teenage summer of fun becomes a
bittersweet lesson in love when he falls for a young war bride in a
seaside town in this original musical based on the 1971 Oscar-nominated
film. Funny, wistful and romantic, Summer of '42 will bring you back to
that innocent age of 1940s swing, when friends met at the local soda
fountain, the Andrews Sisters played on every radio, and the discovery
of first love felt strange and wonderful," state JAY notes. The recording followed a 2005 concert at the York Theatre Company; Gabriel Barre directed. The show previously ran at the Variety Arts Theatre in late 2001-early 2002; Keenan-Bolger and Driscoll starred and Barre directed.
Summer of '42 is based upon the novel and screenplay by Herman Raucher. Lynne Shankel is the recording's musical director.Visit www.jayrecords.com for more information.
