Studio Six of the Moscow Art Theater is pleased to announce the selection of their award-winning production ...the itsy bitsy spider... to be featured at the 14th Annual Wildside Theatre Festival in Montreal.  An original adaptation of Dostoevsky's Demons, ...the itsy bitsy spider... is conceived and directed by the internationally renowned director Alexandre Marine, and is performed by the members of the New York-based company Studio Six of the Moscow Art Theatre.  The bold, highly physical adaptation features original music and choreography performed by the tightly knit ensemble, bringing a news perspective to one of Dostoevsky's most arresting tales.  ...the itsy bitsy spider... will run as part of the Wildside Theatre Festival in Montreal at the Centaur Theatre from January 4-16, 2011.  Tickets and showtimes are available at www.centaurtheatre.com.

...the itsy bitsy spider... is an original adaptation of Dostoevsky's "Demons" or "The Possessed", conceived and staged by Russian director Alexandre Marine specifically for Studio Six.  The play revolves around a controversial chapter of Dostoevsky's novel that was censored for decades in Russia.  The events of this repressed chapter permeate the action and events of the entire novel - and have been the springboard for this production.  Marine brings the tumultuous relationships and psyches of the characters to the fore in this production about a town torn apart by conspiracy, fanaticism, and plotting revolutionaries.  ...the itsy bitsy spider... premiered in the fall of 2009 in New York at the Baryshnikov Arts Center.  Since its first run, the company has continued to develop the production, performing at the AmFab Art + Design Complex in Connecticut and the Theatre Project in Baltimore, Maryland, where it was named "Best Production of 2010" by Baltimore's City Paper.

Director Alexandre Marine is a recipient of the Distinguished Artist of Russia award.  He is a founding member of the Tabakerka Theater in Moscow, and is also founding artistic director of his Montreal company, Théâtre Deuxième Réalité. As a stage director, he has staged over 50 shows in Moscow, Montreal, Boston, New York and Tokyo, and his shows at the Moscow Art Theater and the Tabakerka have toured extensively through Europe and the US. He recently received much critical acclaim for his production of Gorki's VASSA at Theatre du Rideau Vert in Montreal. Marine's work has been described as "...marked by vibrant imagination, a vicious sense of humor and exuberant iconoclasticism."

Studio Six of the Moscow Art Theater Company is the sixth and sole American studio to be born of the renowned Moscow Art Theater School.  The ensemble-based company is comprised of the only class of Americans to complete the full conservatory training program of Russia's Moscow Art Theater School.  Studio Six is dedicated to bringing Russian theater culture and values to American audiences through their enlivened and innovative productions.  Their mission is to be a cultural bridge between the Russian and American theater communities, and their productions are examples of this interchange at work.
