The entire Broadway community has been affected by the Strike, including the non-profit organizations who rely on theatre-going audiences for their support. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS released the following statement today regarding sales of their latest "Carols for a Cure" CD:
"Due to the stagehand strike closing so many shows on Broadway, this project is now a silent victim of the strike… Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will suffer a big hit this year unless this strike is settled quickly…
Other than a few select museums and stores, the only way people can buy 'Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Volume 9' is by ordering the 2-disc set for only $20 through BC/EFA at www.broadwaycares.org or by calling 212-840-0770 x250 Monday-Friday, 10AM- 5PM EST."
Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 9' is the annual holiday music CD which has raised millions for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the largest industry based organization supporting those suffering with AIDS. This annual CD is recorded by stars and casts from virtually every show on Broadway. Most of the sales of this fundraising CD are at the shows from mid-October-December. (Individual songs from all nine CDs will soon be available on itunes.)
Since its inception in 1999, the "Carols for a Cure" series of recordings have raised over $2.5 million for BC/EFA, providing support and care for those suffering with AIDS, as well as lending support to women's health issues.
Featuring performers from virtually every show from the 2007 Broadway season, the two-disc set offers 30 original and traditional holiday songs recorded especially for this benefit CD. Notable performers include Tony Award winners David Hyde Pierce, Shuler Hensley, Christian Hoff, and Karen Ziemba; plus Ashley Brown, Mara Davi, Edward Hibbert, Andy Karl, Michael Longoria, Orfeh, Laura Osnes and Max Crumm, Daniel Reichard, J. Robert Spencer, Max von Essen, Kerry Butler, Howard McGillin, Julia Murney, and many others. Also performing on this year's CD are Rosie's Broadway Kids, young students in the performing arts program founded by Rosie O'Donnell.
"Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Volume 9" can be ordered for only $20 through BC/EFA at BroadwayCares.org or by calling 212-840-0770 x250 Monday-Friday, 10AM-5PM EST.
