Edward Albee and Tom Stoppard will be among the theatre luminaries taking part in a celebration for London's Royal Court Theatre. Toasting the theatre's 50th anniversary, the event will take place from September 10th through September 17th at New York's Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South).
The event will feature five free readings that will be performed by respected actors. Arnold Wexler's
Roots will be performed on Sunday, September 10th at 2 PM, while theatre veterans
Brian Murray and Michael Allinson will star in a reading of
John Osborne's classic
The Entertainer on Monday, September 11th at 7:30 PM.
Conor McPherson's
The Weir will be performed on Tuesday, September 12th at 7:30 PM, Caryl Churchill's groundbreaking
Cloud 9 on Wednesday, September 15th at 7:30 PM and Terry Johnson's
Insignificance on Friday, September 15th at 7:30 PM.
"Pipe Night," celebrating individual theatrical achievement, will conclude the festivities on Sunday, September 17th. Playwriting legends Albee and Stoppard, as well as Tony Award-winning director
Garry Hynes, will (most likely) turn out for the event, which will feature cockails, dinner and entertainment.
The Royal Court Theatre is currently presenting Tom Stoppard's
Rock 'n' Roll (at the Duke of York's Theatre) and Tanika Gupta's
Sugar Mommies (at the Royal Court itself).
Reservations are required for the free readings, as well as for "Pipe Night" (tickets are $95 for the latter); call 212-475-6116.
