The Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Harold Clurman Playwrights Division will present the fifth annual First Breath New Play Reading Series June 11-14, 2018, featuring new work from four emerging female playwrights. One year ago, the Studio launched a search for new plays by women playwrights, and out of 100 submitted, four will be read. This year, First Breath will feature plays by Julie Richardson, Jan Rosenberg (also the Studio's playwright-in-residence this year), Emma Carter and Jordan Ramirez Puckett. All events are free and open to the public:

Monday, June 11 at 7pm

How to Destroy an American Girl Doll by Jan Rosenberg
Gen teaches Vee how to do it when they're twelve. And then they grow up, and they're still doing it. This is about that thing you do that you're too afraid to talk about, because it's embarrassing and gross, and you're ashamed. This is for you.

Five characters struggle to find peace and justice in the aftermath of an unthinkable event.

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting was founded in 1949 on the principle that growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous, and has always strived to create a space where artists and audiences are called to deeply investigate and nurture their shared humanity. The mission of the Studio is to create an environment that nurtures theater artists and audiences so that they value humanity, their own and others, as their first priority while providing art and education to the greater community.

Established in 1949 by Stella Adler, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting was founded upon Adler's belief in the supreme seriousness of her art, and has, for the last five decades, enriched every part of the American theater and film arts. Adler's philosophies kept many well-known members of the theater coming back for her intelligent and passionate advice and the school has since trained many of the brilliant actors of our time, including Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Elaine Stritch, Benicio Del Toro and Salma Hayek. The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is a not-for-profit organization, which trains over 500 actors annually and also presents world-class lectures, poetry readings, jazz, classical music, theater, and dance theater events. www.stellaadler.com.
