Stella Adler Studio Announces Actor Warrior Festival

The Harold Clurman Lab Theater, the professional wing of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting New York City, is proud to announce its first 2017 offering. The Actor Warrior Festival features four solo plays all written and performed by actors. The festival will run from January 19 to 28 and feature new work by David Deblinger (co-founder of LAByrinth Theater Company), Michael Milligan (Broadway: August: Osage County, La Bette, Jerusalem), Liza Peterson (Def Poetry/HBO) and Carine Montbertrand (Les Liaisons Dangereuses/Baltimore Center Stage, Frankenstein/Soho Rep, Macbeth/The Acting Company).

"The Actor Warrior Festival celebrates theater artists who are taking the initiative to create and perform their own work," said Tom Oppenheim, Artistic Director of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. "The Studio and the Lab Theater have a history that includes actors like Jacob Adler, Sara Adler and Stella Adler. The Actor Warrior Festival also celebrates and continues that particular aspect of our heritage." All shows offer advance tickets for $10 each via Ovation Tix. A "pay what you can at the door" ticket structure is also offered in an effort to make theater-going accessible to patrons of all income levels. Synopsis: A hilarious and moving journey through the life cycle. From the death of a parent, to the birth of a child, Deblinger zig zags through a range of mad, sad, beautiful, crazy characters and stories punctuated by jazz/pop vocals. "He locks. He pops. He makes you laugh," says The New York Times. "He's every bit as gifted as Bogosian, Leguizamo and Danny Hoch," says the New York Daily News.

The Peculiar Patriot: A Remix Mashup by Liza Peterson, directed by Talvin Wilks
Studio Theater BSynopsis: Conversations with Betsy LaQuanda Ross, a self-proclaimed "peculiar patriot," performing monologues and poetry while engaging the audience in dialogue about mass incarceration and the current political climate.

Seven Devils and a French Nun by Carine Montbertrand, co-created and directed by Ron Bashford
Studio Theater CSynopsis: Based on the true story of Jeanne des Anges, the egomaniacal, sex-starved nun who accuses an ambitious, attractive priest of possessing her with seven devils. As a buffoon clown, Carine Montbertrand portrays Jeanne and each of The Devils who possessed her. Multiple exorcisms, a burning and a major miracle later, Jeanne becomes a living saint, captivating all of France like a rock superstar.
