The Stella Adler Outreach Division provides free actor training to New York City pubic school students who might not otherwise be able to afford it. The Outreach Division offers year-long instruction to these aspiring artists with the same intensity and integrity of all the Studio's other learning tracks. The program also addresses at-risk youth's need to have a safe place to find and express their voices.

At a time when New York City public schools are not in compliance with the state's minimum arts education requirements and 41% of parents surveyed say that their child was receiving "absolutely no arts education," programs like the Stella Adler Outreach Division are more important than ever.

In March, the Studio launched the Roy Scheider Scholarship Endowment Fund. Roy Scheider, who recently passed away, was Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Stella Alder Studio. The Roy Scheider Scholarship Endowment Fund will allow the Studio to expand and improve the Stella Adler Outreach Division and provide free actor-training to even more inner-city youths each year. Steven Spielberg kicked off the fundraising effort with a $50,000 challenge grant.

On August 23rd from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., the Stella Adler Studio will hold a benefit for the Roy Scheider Scholarship Endowment Fund in Watermill, NY. John Randolph Hearst, Jr., Brenda Siemer Scheider and Ellen Adler will host the event and notable members of the theatre and arts community are expected to attend. Tickets are still available, for information please contact Nina Capelli at (212) 689-0087. Tickets at the $250 level fund one Adler Youth student's training for six months and tickets at the $500 fund one Adler Youth student's training for a full year.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Studio's current and upcoming initiatives should contact Larry Kopp or Laura Fenton at The T.A.S.C. Group, (646) 723-4344.

About The Stella Adler Studio of Acting

Established in 1949 by Stella Adler, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting was founded upon Adler's belief in the supreme seriousness of her art, and has, for the last five decades, enriched every part of the American theater and film arts. Adler's philosophies kept many well-known members of the theater coming back for her intelligent and passionate advice and the school has since trained many of the brilliant actors of our time, including Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Elaine Stritch, Benicio del Toro, Mark Ruffalo and Salma Hayek. The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is a nonprofit organization, which trains over 500 actors annually and also presents world-class lectures, poetry readings, jazz, classical music, theater, and dance theater events. www.stellaadler.com
