Emmy award-winning journalist Kelly Wright, former anchor and reporter for Fox News Channel, performs a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence to kick off Historic Richmond Town's Pinwheel Parade, led by fife and drum, as New York City's living history village Celebrates the Centennial!
Wright was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Sponsors at Morehouse College for his "Beyond the Dream" series. He is an ordained minister and Gospel Recording Artist. As a singer, he's performed on programs featuring Shirley Caesar, Cissy Houston Jonathan Butler, the late James Brown, and more. He sings songs that motivate, inspire, and promote hope.
Historic Richmond Town's Independence Day celebration includes many new additions, including: Kevin Fitzpatrick's author talk- "World War I New York: A Guide to the City's Enduring Ties to the Great War"; Living History display focusing on the Doughboys of 1918; Model 1914 Hotchkiss machine gun and other firearms from the Society's comprehensive collection; and photo opps with a 1917 Model T Ford Roadster.

Returning favorites include: Pie-baking demonstrations; Ice cream churning; making Victorian paper pinwheels and marching in the Pinwheel Parade; visiting with the Artisans of the Historic Trades and learning about the creation of household necessities using period tools; viewing the displays of the Staten Island Model Railroaders; and singing folk songs.

3:45pm -- Gather for the Parade on Center Street for a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a Patriotic confetti shower; before joining the Fife and Drum Pin Pinwheel Parade to enjoy hand-churned ice cream with the red, white or blue fruit pies from the colonial farmhouse oven.
