Staten Island Children's Museum Opens Free To The Public For A Cool School Holiday

Blue Potatoes, Blue Tongues, Blue Paint, and a Blue Quiz Chase away the winter blues at the Staten Island Children's Museum

The museum will open FREE to the public a Northfield Bank Foundation Cool School Holiday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, January 18th - During Winter Break

Blue Food - to warm you up!
Health Plus Kids Cook - Kidz cook every Friday. There really is blue food. On the menu this week are blue potatoes, young chefs will peeling, chopping, mashing and tasting. Cooking begins at 2, 3 & 4 p.m.

The Zoo Too! Blue, blue my tongue is blue!

Our friends from the Staten Island Zoo will be stopping by with a Blue Tongued Skink - The skink uses its tongue and eyesight to find food and uses its colorful cobalt blue tongue in a dramatic fashion to startle, distract, and ward off predators.

January 16 - 2 p.m.

Blue Painting
Paint Like Van Gogh - The Starry Night Workshops aspiring artists learn to paint like the famous Dutch Painter - paint dark blue swirls and then fill in the rest.
January 16 & 17 - Saturday & Sunday at 1, 2 & 3 p.m.

Monday, January 18th - During Winter Break - The museum will open FREE to the public a Northfield Bank Foundation Cool School Holiday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To celebrate diversity in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visitors will participate in making Freedom Hands and remember the work of this great civil rights leader and how he helped people struggle for freedom and dignity.

The ongoing workshop begins at 1:30 p.m.

Kidz Quiz - "Blue Questions" Who is smarter than you?

Kids can participate in the Staten Island Children's Museum game show. The host will greet the contestants at 3 p.m. in Portia's Playhouse.
The Walk In! Workshop is turning blue too!
January 20 - Wednesday- "Blue" Clay Day from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
January 21 - Thursday - "Blue" Paint Day from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - WIW programs are free with Museum admission.
Clay Day-Wednesdays- Aspiring sculptors can create works of art with special air-dry clay.
Paint Day - Thursdays - Picasso may have started like this!
Kidz Cook- Fridays- Future chefs practice recipes and sample some fancy food.

While at the Museum, families can visit hands-on, fabulous interactive exhibits: Block Harbor, The Big Game, Bugs and Other Insects, Great Explorations, Portia's Playhouse, Sea of Boats, Ladder 11, D.B.'s Fantastic Machines & House About It! and more! Museum Hours are noon - 5 p.m. when NYCity public schools are open and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. when NYCity public schools are closed (including weekends). Admission is $6 per person; children under 1 and members are admitted free. Every day, join Animal Time when youngsters can assist our educators in caring for our birds, bugs, fish and guinea pig. Telling tales out of school is okay everyday when visitors hear stories from around the world. Grandparents are admitted free on Wednesdays.
