Students are invited to submit 10-Minute scripts before they arrive for the summer. Each session, five jury-selected winners then direct and produce their efforts with a student cast.

As customary, performances were attended by respected members of the entertainment industry who spent time with the young authors to give them feed back and encouragement. The winning shows will be published in anthology by Samuel French, Inc.

"I was truly impressed by what I saw...strong, committed, distinct voices coming from middle and high school writers. Dramafest is providing a vital role for all of us: fostering the playwrights of tomorrow. Samuel French, through our OnStage Press® division dedicated to swift publication of new work, is proud to be a part of this remarkable program for young playwrights." - Kenneth Dingledine, Director of Publications, Samuel French, Inc.

DRAMAFEST is based on (and in conjunction with) Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights. Dramafest encourages and motivates young writers who aspire for a career writing for Broadway, television or film. The program gives young writers the opportunity to experience the thrill of seeing their work come to life on stage in Off-Broadway fashion.
