Emma Hunton will be making her Broadway debut on Tuesday, February 19 as the free-spirited bohemian "Ilse" in the eight-time Tony Award-winning musical, Spring Awakening.
An 11th-grader in Los Angeles who was discovered by Spring Awakening during their Los Angeles auditions, sixteen-year-old Hunton was only eight when she was featured in the national tour of Les Miserables in the role of "young Cossette." Since then, she co-starred with Rita Wilson in Lisa Loomer's Distracted at the Mark Taper Forum and was featured in the film Happy Endings with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Lisa Kudrow.
Through the music of Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics of Steven Sater, Spring Awakening follows a group of teenagers through the joyous and painful adventure of growing up. With direction by Michael Mayer and choreography by Bill T. Jones, the musical won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Book, Best Score and Best Choreography. The show also won four Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical.
The DECCA soundtrack recently won a Grammy Award as Best Musical Show Album.
