SpectiCast and Broadway Worldwide spearhead the new Direct From Broadway film series, set to feature a handful of terrific filmed Broadway productions in movie theaters nationwide beginning this October.
Starting on October 9, select showings of a number of selections will be available to view at specially selected movie theaters across the country throughout the end of this year and into 2014.
Productions featured in the Direct From Broadway series include filmings of the original Broadway productions of recent Tony Award-winning Best Musical MEMPHIS, long-running Leiber & Stoller revue SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, Stephen Sondheim's "musical review" PUTTING IT TOGETHER, Duke Ellington's SOPHISTICATED LADIES, JEKYLL & HYDE starring David Hasselhoff and more.
The official description of Direct From Broadway is as follows: "Five Broadway musicals will burst on the big screen as captured live-in-performance. With stars like Carol Burnett and David Hasselhoff and the work of musical legends including Stephen Sondheim, Leiber and Stoller and Duke Ellington, our Direct From Broadway Series is not to be missed. Established in 1995, Broadway Worldwide was first-to-market in the high definition, surround sound production and worldwide distribution of Broadway musicals captured live-in-performance for digital cinema, DVD and television. SpectiCast will license, distribute and market the Direct From Broadway titles as a series of big screen, high definition exhibitions in performing arts centers, independent cinemas, art houses and museums nationwide this fall."
