Ars Nova will kick off the third season of its Broadway Spotlight series with Steve Rosen, who is currently making his Broadway debut as Sir Bedevere, Dennis Galahad's Mother and Concorde in Monty Python's Spamalot.Broadway Spotlight: Steve Rosen will be on Monday, June 13th at 8 PM.
Rosen's ascent to Broadway fame has been an unexpected one. For 2 1/2 years, he was making his living as an audition reader; reading with the actors auditioning for roles in Broadway shows. Early in 2004, casting agent Tara Rubin asked Rosen if he would be interested in reading with those auditioning for Spamalot. He said "yes," and was eventually offered an audition and then the chance to originate a role on Broadway; Spamalot marks his Broadway debut. Rosen's off-Broadway credits include The Parrot (Flea Theatre), Franz Kafka's The Castle and The Golden (Manhattan Ensemble Theatre), Abie's Island Rose (Jewish Rep.) as well as readings and workshops for Manhattan Theatre Club, The Public Theatre and many others. Broadway Spotlight brings bright new stars of the Great White Way to the intimate theater at Ars Nova (511 W. 54th St.). Curated by Gordon Greenberg, this season's guests have included Jesse Tyler Ferguson (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Barrett Foa (Avenue Q), Megan Hilty (Wicked) and Shayna Steele (Hairspray). This acclaimed monthly event has previously hosted Broadway notables such as Idina Menzel, John Tartaglia, Anthony Rapp, Julia Murney and Billy Porter.
Proceeds from Steve Rosen's Broadway Spotlight will be donated to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.
