A stop at the The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston, Texas from May 22nd through June 17th was recently added on to the upcoming national tour of Spamalot.
The madcap Monty Python musical will kick off at the Colonial Theatre in Boston on March 7th, and will play there through April 15th. Other scheduled dates include the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago (April 19-June 4), The National Theatre in Washington, D.C (June 6-July 9), the Pittsburgh CLO's Benedum Center (Sept. 19-Oct. 1) and the Fox Theatre in Atlanta from (Feb. 20-March 4, 2007); more cities (in the US and Canada) and dates have yet to be announced.
In Houston, the show will be presented by Cadillac Broadway Across America-Houston and Theatre Under The Stars.
Directed by eight-time Tony Award-winner Mike Nichols, Spamalot features a book by Eric Idle, based on the screenplay of Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, with music and lyrics by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. Tony Award nominee Casey Nicholaw is the choreographer.
Lovingly "ripped-off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python's Spamalot is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols), as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical. Productions of the musical have also been announced for The Palace Theatre in London's West End and at the Wynn Las Vegas. The show features "a chorus line of dancing divas and knights, flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits and one legless knight," according to press notes.
The national touring company of Spamalot will be led by Michael Siberry (The Sound of Music) as King Arthur, Bradley Dean (Man of La Mancha) as Sir Galahad, Tom Deckman as the Historian, Jeff Dumas (Wicked in Chicago) as Patsy, Pia Glenn (The Frogs), Christopher Gurr as Sir Bedevere, Richard Holmes (The Pillowman) as Sir Lancelot, and David Turner (The Invention of Love) as Sir Robin.
Also appearing in the cast will be Kevin Burrows, Kevin Crewell, Callie Carter, Tim Federle, Robyn Hurder, Naomi Kakuk, Amanda Kloots, Gavin Lodge, Nikki Long, Justin Patterson, Mia Price, Darryl Semira, Christopher Sutton, Esther Stilwell, Paula Wise, Brandi Wooten and Craig Waletzko.
Set and costume design for Spamalot is by Tony Award-winner Tim Hatley, lighting design is by Hugh Vanstone and sound design is by ACME Sound Partners. Larry Hochman provides orchestrations, while Glen Kelly does so for the musical arrangements and Todd Ellison the musical supervision and vocal arrangements. The show is produced by Boyett Ostar Productions.
