Monty Python's Spamalot will celebrate its first anniversary on Broadway with a rather unusual celebration. Following the matinee performance on Wednesday, March 22, any peasant or serf willing to join the quest is invited to gather in Shubert Alley (located between West 44th and West 45th Streets between Broadway and 8th Avenue), to go for the Guinness World Record™ for the "World's Largest Coconut Orchestra."
Cast members from
Spamalot, including Tony Award-nominees
Christopher Sieber and
Michael McGrath, will be on hand to taunt, or rather "conduct," the orchestra in a coconut-clapping rendition of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" in Shubert Alley.
"Official representatives from Guinness World Records™ will be present to monitor the flood of peasants expected to gather to try to set this record. After all, they're getting free coconuts," state press notes on the event.
All registered participants will receive a free set of commemorative coconuts.
Anyone and everyone is invited to participate in the record-setting event. Event registration will begin at 3:45 PM in Shubert Alley, the event itself will begin at 4:30 PM, and the record will be confirmed by Guinness officials at 4:45 PM.
