"People may say I can't sing, but no one can ever say I didn't sing." - Florence Foster Jenkins
The Westport Country Playhouse presents Souvenir, a fantasia on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, starring Judy Kaye with Donald Corren, May 31 - June 16 with an opening night June 2.
"Florence Foster Jenkins was a professional singer with one irreparable flaw... she couldn't hit a single note on key," states press notes, "Yet, Jenkins believed herself an Opera Diva of the highest caliber. This true story, as told through the eyes of her compassionate accompanist Cosme McMoon, reveals a remarkable woman whose love and passion for music - when paired with her conviction and drive - catapults her to fame and personal dreams realized."
Tony Award winner Judy Kaye stars as the legendary Florence Foster Jenkins, a socialite who gave hilariously off-key recitals that became the talk of New York, ending with a notorious sold-out 1944 concert at Carnegie Hall. A recent Broadway production, Souvenir offers a comic and touching look at "the dire diva of din" and her relationship with her long-time pianist.
Souvenir by Stephen Temperley, is directed by Vivian Matalon. Show times are Tuesday - Fridays at 8PM; Wednesdays at 2PM; Saturdays at 4 & 8PM; and Sundays at 3PM. There is no 4PM show June 2.
The Westport County Playhouse is located at 25 Powers Court, Westport, CT 06880.
