The RRazz Room, San Francisco's premier nightclub, will present a special week-long run of the legendary soul group HAROLD MELVIN'S BLUE NOTES. For their show, the Blue Notes will be singing all of their greatest hits including Grammy Award-nominated classics such as "If You Don't Know Me By Now," "The Love I Lost," "Don't Leave Me This Way," "Wake Up Everybody" and "Bad Luck." The group features vocalists Donnell Gillespie, better known as "Big Daddy," Rufus Thorne (also called "Fuss"), Anthony Brooks, and John Morris.
HAROLD MELVIN'S BLUE NOTES, originally known as "The Charlemagnes" was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the early 1950's. However in the 1960's the name was changed to Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, which soon went on to record several hits on Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label between 1972 and 1976. Among their credits, they have recordings of singles and albums that have reached Gold and Platinum status "If You Don't Know Me By Now" was nominated for a Grammy Award, as well as other hits such as "The Love I Lost" "Bad Luck," and "Wake Up Everybody." They have performed at Carnegie Hall, The Forum, Hollywood Bowl, Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Palladium in London and the Core States Arena in Philadelphia.
Despite group founder and original lead singer Harold Melvin's top billing, the Blue Notes' most famous member was Teddy Pendergrass, their lead singer during the success years at the Philadelphia International label. Teddy Pendergrass joined Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes as a drummer in the late 1960's. However after the lead singer at the time, John Atkins, left in 1970, Teddy Pendergrass was promoted to lead singer. In 1975 the group was joined by female vocalist Sharon Paige. The group then went on to release one of their most critically acclaimed albums, "Wake Up Everybody." Through the inspiration of Larry Brown and mutual agreement and Lloyd Parks, the group has added the addition of extremely talented gentlemen by the names of Arthur Aiken and former member of the Delfonics, Salaam Love. The Blue Notes years of experience allow you to experience an intriguing and captivating performance. Their showmanship and professionalism are essential components that make them extraordinary. Harold Melvin's Blue Notes today are just as evocative, alluring and just as soulful as the group has been in the past.
