Sonnet Repertory Theatre celebrates classic theatre for a modern planet with a production of a new musical, The Other Shore, directed by Wade McCollum. The Other Shore is being staged at Classic Stage Company (136 East 13th Street, NYC) and performances are Monday, August 15 at 3:00pm and Tuesday, August 16 at 3:00pm.

The Other Shore is a new musical connecting East and West, that follows the rebellious Brahmin's son, Siddhartha, on his journey to liberation as penned by the Nobel Prize-winning author, Hermann Hesse.

Sharing the narrative arc, like a parabolic ballet, there is a simultaneous flow between Hesse's life in 1919 Germany and the articulated mythic India of his book,Siddhartha. Using the writing of the book as medicine to endure his own crisis, The Other Shore is the deeply personal story of Hesse's journey of devotion, suffering, loss and transmutation while articulating a myth from which we can draw inspiration.

Siddhartha is one of the best-regarded and most widely-read books of the twentieth century, contributing to Hesse being awarded the Nobel Prize in 1946. It has been translated into dozens of languages. In the century since its publication, Siddhartha has sold tens of millions of copies introducing innumerable people around the world to Buddhism and Eastern philosophy. The Other Shore illuminates the stage with this unifying story and gives modern day seekers an inspirational refuge.

Wade McCollum is a multi-award-winning actor, composer, and writer who has been seen on Broadway in Wicked and most recently as "Ernest Shackleton" in the new musical Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, for which he garnered the Boston Norton award for Best Actor in a Musical. He also recently led the Broadway tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert as "Tick," and guest starred as "Sydney Carton" opposite Clive Owen on Cinemax/HBO's "The Knick." As a writer and composer, Wade wants to tell complex stories that inspire compassion, illuminate diversity and celebrate the poetic heart of our human experience.

The cast includes: George Abud, Nick Choksi, Dana Costello, Angel Desai,Lucas Hall, Bre Jackson, Gabriella Pizzolo, and Chelsea Zeno.

Sonnet Repertory Theatre is led by Artistic Director, Todd Loyd (numerous on and off-Broadway projects as actor, director and everything in-between including: the Broadway productions of La Boheme, The Color Purple, works at The Kennedy Center, The Eugene O'Neill Playwright's Conference, Lincoln Center Institute, Cedar Lake Dance, PCPA Theaterfest, The Belt Theatre and such festivals as NYMF and NAMT).
