Soho Rep and PlayCo Extend GENERATIONS

In response to popular demand, Soho Rep. and The Play Company, in association with John Adrian Selzer, extend the U.S. premiere of debbie tucker green's generations to November 9. The production, which opens on October 12, reunites the playwright with director Leah C. Gardiner, who worked together on the OBIE Award-winning 2011 production of born bad. generations features a 13-person choir led by music director Bongi Duma (The Lion King). The cast includes Shyko Amos (An Octoroon), Mamoudou Athie, Khail Toi Bryant (The Lion King), Ntombikhona Dlamini (Sarafina!), Thuli Dumakude (The Lion King, Poppie Nongena), Jonathan Peck (The Lion in Winter) and Michael Rogers (born bad, Breakfast With Mugabe).

In generations, audiences are invited into a kitchen in a South African township where a fragrant meal is being prepared. As they cook, three generations of a close-knit family banter and share stories and food. Both urgent and exuberant, green's formally daring play tackles what's transmitted and lost through generations of a family-and a nation.

Performances of generations will now take place through November 9 (see schedule above) at Soho Rep. Critics are welcome as of Wednesday, October 8 for an official opening of Sunday, October 12 at 7:30pm. Soho Rep. is located at 46 Walker Street in Manhattan. $35 general admission tickets and $65 premium reserved tickets can be purchased by visiting sohorep.org or playco.org, or calling 212.352.3101. The extended run and ability to keep tickets at $35 is underwritten by John Adrian Selzer. $0.99 Sunday tickets will be offered on October 19 at 4pm and are available first come, first served at the box office only. $30 general rush and $20 student rush (valid school ID) tickets are available at the box office one hour prior to curtain for each performance, no advance sales.

The choir features Elijah Caldwell, Jasmine Holloway, Michael Howard, Darell Hunt, Jonathan Kirkland, Ismael Kouyaté, John Lucas, Ritumetse Rita Motlhanka, Thakabasadi Sato, Slindile Sokutu, Tanyaradzwa A. Tawengwa, Electra Weston, and Tanya Zondo.

The creative team includes Arnulfo Maldonado (set), Matt Frey (lights), Matt Tierney (sound), Ásta Bennie Hostetter (costumes), Greg Kozatek & George Hoffmann (props and set dressing), Geoff Boronda (stage manager) and Raphael Martin & Chip Rodgers (associate producers).
