The times may have changed, but for one young and determined girl, the bonds of family are still the strongest ties of all in this contemporary and humorous twist to the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale THE SNOW QUEEN. Adapted and directed by Glory Sims Bowen, the show will be presented by FHB Theater Productions and the Looking Glass Theatre Company, and begin a seven week run at the Looking Glass Theatre, located at 422 West 57th Street, on November 6th.

Norwegian children Gerda and her little brother Kai are as close as a brother and sister can be. But one day, Kai is kidnapped by evil Snow Queen, who whisks him away to her far-away world. Determined to save him, Gerda sets off on a dangerous quest, traveling through several mysterious lands, each with its own hidden dangers. On her journey she encounters a talking river, the mysterious Martha Flower (think Donna Reed on steroids), a princess who thinks marriage is the solution to all the world's problems and the streetwise Robber Girl, who becomes Gerda's best friend. A family friendly story, THE SNOW QUEEN is also a coming of age tale as Gerda learns much about herself and what life has to offer. The story ends happily, but it's happiness on Gerda's terms, no one else's.

The SNOW QUEEN uses black lit puppetry and includes a cast of twelve featuring Tony Abdallah, Michael Baldwin, Andrea Biggs, Virginia Callaway, Zoe Frazer, Shareefah Hamilton, Luis Medina, Jill Michael, Aaron Mize, Rodney Pallank, Meg Rodd and Maurice Wilson.

Glory Sims Bowen has directed at numerous Manhattan theatres including the American Globe, Chashama, the Bank Street Theatre, HERE, Raw Space and the Connelly Theater. She received the Meritorious Achievement Award in Direction from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Awards and the 2002/2003 Spotlight On Award for Best Director of a full length play. Some of her favorite directorial credits include The Glass Menagerie, Pippin, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Ten Little Indians, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and several works by Ionesco. Ms. Bowen is the artistic director for FHB Productions.
