Snapping Turtle Productions presents the world premiere of Stress Positions, written by Daniel Sweren-Becker and directed by Robin A. Paterson (Humans Anonymous, Making Marilyn), as part of FringeNYC's 13th annual theater festival. The play offers a fierce exploration of one of today's most controversial issues - America's recent history of condoning and perpetrating torture.

Set entirely in an underground interrogation room, Stress Positions follows a desperate U.S. Army Colonel while he attempts to break a shackled detainee. As both men reach the limits of their endurance, they reveal that the trauma of torture can have shocking and unexpected consequences.

As the characters struggle through both literal and emotional positions of extreme discomfort, the audience's notion of what is permissible will be put to the test. They will be forced to decide whether even the noblest of goals can trump basic humanity and morality.

Daniel Sweren-Becker is a screenwriter living in New York City. Between undergrad at Wesleyan University and grad school at NYU, he worked for several years in the entertainment industry for ESPN and HBO. He writes the Gossip Girl blog for The Huffington Post. Robin A. Paterson directed the New York premieres of Warning: Adult Content, featuring Eric Michael Gillett; Humans Anonymous (Best of Toronto Fringe); and Making Marilyn, starring Ashlie Atkinson. The play stars Jed Dickson, Duane Cooper and Matt Walker.

Stress Positions will be performed at The SoHo Playhouse (15 Vandam St. btw. 6th Ave. & Varick) on Wednesday, 8/19 @10:30; Thursday, 8/20 @10:00; Sunday, 8/23 @7:45; Thursday, 8/27 @7:30, and Friday, 8/28 @4:45. Visit www.stresspositions.com for more info.
