On July 7 at 10pm, Brooklyn-based band Sky-Pony will hit the stage at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2. Since its formation in 2012, the band has garnered a cult following for sets that merge rock show and theatrical event.
Lauren Worsham (Drama Desk Award winner and Tony Award nominee for A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, currently on Broadway) fronts the group, flanked by two female backup singers. The band is a collaboration with her husband, Obie Award winning songwriter Kyle Jarrow, who pens the tunes. The Wall Street Journal describes the group as "a 1960s girl group on crack - tight, fierce, hilarious and out of their minds!" The NY Times describes them as "flamboyant art pop." The NJ Star-Ledger writes, "Sky-Pony combines lively electro-pop melodies with synchronized girl-group dance moves... [Lauren Worsham's] fierce, high-energy stage presence has made her magnetic onstage as the front-woman."
You can catch them live on Thursday July 17 at 10pm at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 (196 Allen Street, NYC). Tickets are only $5. More info and advance purchase at http://www.ticketfly.com/event/537715.
Sky-Pony is a Brooklyn based band that serves up lush, lyrical, often cheeky indie-pop with a healthy dose of theatrics. They incorporate costumes, choreography, and projections into their high-energy live shows. Rock concert meets performance art meets burlesque, you might say. Their discography includes two EPs: Say You Love Me Like You Mean It and Raptured Live, both available on itunes. In addition to Worsham and Jarrow, Sky-Pony also features the talents of Kevin Wunderlich, Lizzie O'Hara, Kristine Piacentile, Jessi Suzuki, Perry Silver, Eric Day and David Blasher.
