Cult-hit Brooklyn rockers Sky-Pony are known for their themed live shows: "a beautiful mash-up of music, choreography, costumes, projections and drama" (Village Voice). On Sunday March 18 they'll serve up their latest themed concert, titled Rites of Spring, at NYC's Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2. Expect a healthy dose of their lush, lyrical, cheeky indie-pop -- ringing in spring with a program of songs about lust, love and rebirth.
Two special guests have just been announced for this show:Sky-Pony is led by the husband-and-wife team of Obie winning writer Kyle Jarrow (also creator of the new CW television series Valor as well as the bookwriter of the Broadway musical SpongeBob SquarePants) and Tony nominated actress-singer Lauren Worsham (Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder). Sky-Pony's theatrical roots shine through in its glammy sound. The band has been called "indie pop aces" by The New York Times and "tight, fierce, hilarious and out of their minds" by The Wall Street Journal.
On Sunday March 18, they'll appear live at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 (196 Allen Street, NYC). Sky-Pony hits the stage at 7pm. Tickets are just $10 and are available in advance at https://www.ticketfly.com/event/1631448.
More on Sky-Pony: In 2016, the band released their debut LP Beautiful Monster on Knitting Factory Records, to strong reviews. That same year they also premiered their rock-theater hybrid piece The Wildness, presented by Ars Nova in collaboration with The Play Company. That too received strong reviews, and the show was nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical. They just recently headlined the Park Avenue Armory Gala with Patti LuPone. Alongside Worsham and Jarrow, the Sky-Pony lineup also features David Blasher (cello), Eric Day (bass), Kevin Wunderlich (guitar), Perry Silver (drums) plus Katie Lee Hill & Kristin Piacentile (backup vocals).
