Algonquin Theater Productions is presenting Shel Silverstein's The Devil and Billy Markham, featuring Brit Herring, at the D-Lounge. The show started Friday, March 9 and continues every Friday and Saturday at 8pm.
The Devil and Billy Markham, featuring Brit Herring and directed by Thomas Cote, was presented to standing room crowds last fall at the Huron Club. The D-Lounge is located just below the Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square (101 East 15th Street).
"You know Shel Silverstein from the children's classics The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends and the country classic "A Boy Named Sue," but wait 'til you see Shel do Hell! You'll want to leave the kids at home for this one," state press materials. "Shel Silverstein's The Devil and Billy Markham, which first appeared as a six–part epic poem in the January 1979 edition of Playboy Magazine and subsequently as a one-act play at Lincoln Center in 1989, tells the story of Billy Markham, an unforgettable character who never met a bet he didn't take, including that of his very own soul. Billy journeys from Nashville's Music Row down into the fiery pits of hell and back again as he matches wits with God, the Devil and everyone in between.
The Broken Pockets Band (Sean Singer, Seth Foster, and Trey Albright) provides the sound track for this sixty minute deal with the devil.
Tickets to The Devil and Billy Markham at the D-Lounge (101 East 15th Street) are $20 with no drink minimum (student tickets are $12) and available at www.devilandbilly.com or by calling SmartTix at (212) 868-4444. Shows are every Friday and Saturday at 8pm.
