"If everything you drew became real, where would your imagination take you?" This is the question that Alex Curtis' innovative one-man show, CHALK (a silent comedy), invites his audiences to laugh, dance, and sigh through as they visit this year's FRIGID Festival.
Opening tonight, February 16th, at The Kraine Theater, CHALK is a clown play in the style of classic silent-film era comedians like Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd. With a few simple props, and a pocket full of chalk-board chalk, together performer and audience are swept into a hand-drawn world where imagination is made real and anything can happen. Charlie Chaplin meets Harold and the Purple Crayon in this feel-good romantic romp guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages.
CHALK was first developed with the Brown/Trinity MFA Program, and then debuted at the Providence Fringe Festival in July 2014. It has been described by audiences as "a must see1," "as moving as it is hilarious2,"and "something to throw your arms around and hug3."
Tickets for CHALK cost $15 and can be reserved in advance online at www.FRIGIDnewyork.info. Performance dates are Feb 16th at 8:50pm, Feb 20th at 1:40pm, Feb 24th at 8:50pm, Mar 1st at 5:30pm, Mar 4th at 6:50pm. About ALEX CURTIS* (creator & performer) - Alex Curtis is a professional actor and amateur producer who, in every way, is trying to figure it out. Alex graduated with his MFA in acting in 2014 from Brown/Trinity Rep. Since then, career highlights include playing a house-hunter on a reality TV show (which wasn't real, btw) and saying a few lines in an episode of "FOREVER," a prime-time drama on ABC which has since been cancelled. He is very excited to perform "CHALK" and not say anything. Next, he will perform in "One Slight Hitch," a farce by Lewis Black, at the Human Race Theatre in Dayton, Ohio this April. Alex lives in Harlem with his cactus and action figure collection. www.AlexMCurtis.com
