The New York Musical Theatre Festival, in association with HJS Productions, will present Little Egypt, a new musical with book by Lynn Siefert, with music and lyrics by Gregg Lee Henry, directed by Lisa James. Performances at The Acorn Theatre begin September 27 through October 5, for six shows only.
"The first act hilariously takes us to the beginning of 'happily ever after,' complete with a misfit knight and a geeky damsel. The second act shows the all too human and darker side of heroism: the moving sacrifice of family, and the redemption that love, once tested, can bring. Though often side-splittingly funny, this is not strictly a comedy; also deeply moving and at times tragic, yet not strictly a tragedy. Rather, it is a bit like life: the full ride, both funny and sad, and when you least expect it, magical," state press notes.
Lisa James directs a cast that features Lisa Akey, Gregg Henry, Jenny O'Hara, Sara Rue, Raphael Sbarge, and Lee Wilkof. Little Egypt's design team includes set designer Lex Liang, costume designer Vicki Sanchez, lighting designer Brian Gale and sound designer Duncan Cutler. Robert Martin will serve as Musical Director.
Performances will be Thursday September 27 at 8PM; Friday September 28 at 1PM; Saturday September 29 at 8PM; Sunday September 30 at 4:30PM; Wednesday October 3 at 8PM; and Friday October 5 at 4:30PM at The Acorn Theatre (410 West 42nd Street, between Ninth and Avenues).
Single tickets to Little Egypt go on sale to the general public on September 1, through www.Theatermania.com at 212-352-3101 or (toll free) 866-811-4111. For additional information, visit NYMF's web site at www.nymf.org
